College Street Welcomes Rev. Ken Reid and Family
October 4-5, 2003
Rev. Kenneth (Ken) Reid comes to us from the First Baptist Church of Blacksburg, South Carolina where he has been Senior Pastor for 8 years. His wife Betsy works with the Cherokee Children's Home and is a Sunday School teacher and is active in music ministry. They have three children. Their oldest daughter, Christie, is married to Rev. Schyuler Peterson and they serve Lakewood Baptist Church in Georgetown. Sandie is a graduate of Clemson and served as minister of youth and children at Blacksburg. Britnie is a high school senior and has just been accepted at the University of South Carolina.
During the weekend of October 4-5 our church family welcomed Rev. Ken Reid, his wife Betsy, and their daughters Sandie and Britnie for a time of fellowship and a time of seeking an understanding of God's will. Ken and Betsy met with our senior adults on Saturday afternoon, followed by a church-wide reception in which the Pastor gave his testimony and answered questions. Ken then met with the deacons and joined them in a sanctuary prayer session seeking the leadership of the Lord. On Sunday the family met with our youth during the Bible Study hour. Following a wonderful worship service of music and praise, Ken brought us a message from the Word from the book of Genesis. Following this sermon our church felt God's leadership and voted to call Rev. Reid to College Street.
Ken began in full time Christian ministry in 1977 and has served as Minister to Youth/Singles/Children, Minister of Youth and Recreation, Associate Pastor - Education and Youth, Interim Pastor, and full-time Assistant Headmaster at a Preparatory School. He has served on numerous committees in the local associations of churches he has served including Hispanic Committee, Personnel Committee, Search Committees, Associational V.B.S. Director, Steering Committees, Nominating Committees, Youth Committees, and Recreation and Camp Committees. As a part of interdenominational service he was Chairman of the Founding Board and President of the Board of Directors of Iron City Ministries, Inc. and Chairman of the Founding Board of God's Storehouse, Inc. He has served on several boards and committees of the Billy Graham Crusades of South Carolina and the Carolinas. Ken has been hired as a consultant for Sunday School growth campaigns for the state conventions of South Carolina, Georgia, and Virginia. Ken has been involved in his community by serving as Blacksburg Police Department Chaplain, President of the Wildcat Marching Band Booster Club, Community in Schools board member for Cherokee County, PA announcer for the Wildcats Football Team, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels of Cherokee County. He is trained to lead Disciple Youth Workshops, and is certified in Masterlife Training and in Parenting by Grace. He has published several articles through the Baptist Sunday School Board.
We extend our Christian welcome and love to our new Pastor and his wonderful family!
A Note from Your Pastor...
Dear Church Family,
Our family is still awed in the wonder of the Worship Service this past Sunday. We feel so blessed and so honored to be coming to Walhalla and to CSBC. You have honored us and we pledge our commitment to you to honor our Lord in all we do in the future.
As these next 30 days go by, please pray for us. Leaving a wonderful church family is never easy and the tears have come often, but we know that our Lord is good, all the time. Your graciousness and words of encouragement have already made us feel at home.
I am meeting with our church staff each Tuesday morning until our arrival the first week in November. My first service with you will be on Wednesday, November 5th, and our first Sunday will be November 9th. In the mean time, pray for the continued flow of God's spirit in our church. We already love you and look forward to all the wonderful future God has in store for us together.
Yours in Christ,
Ken, Betsy, Sandie and Britnie
